“Poor guy, you oughta see this guy…”

The title of this blog is a direct quote from Donald Trump’s speech Tuesday, November 24 in South Carolina which he followed with flailing arms and gestures. Below you can see the gestures of Trump as he imitated the New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski’s disability. Mr. Kovaleski has a chronic condition called arthrogryposis which limits the movement of his arms. If Mr Trump was unaware of the reporter’s disability, why would he say ” …you oughta SEE this guy?

As a member of the disabled community I am appalled by Mr. Trump’s callus and insensitive behavior. The lives of people with disabilities are hard enough without having a physical disability ridiculed in front of an audience of millions. In the last 25 years this country has made tremendous strides in its attitude toward individuals who are disabled. I have found in the 17 years since becoming a quadriplegic the general public’s understanding, caring and sensitivity to our situation improved dramatically. To have an individual of Mr. Trump’s status openly ridicule an individual who has a disability is a step backwards for all to see.

Rather than admit he made a mistake, which seems hard for Mr. Trump to do, a statement was posted Thanksgiving day on his Twitter account which said Trump doesn’t know the reporter personally or what he looks like and was only mocking his journalism. The New York Times reporter, Serge Kovaleski, “should stop using his disability to grandstand,” the statement quoted Trump as saying.

Regardless of your political views, Mr. Trump should be held accountable for his callus and arrogant behavior. At the very least Mr. Trump should apologize for his insensitivity to Mr Kovaleski specifically, the disabled community and the American public.

Thank you for writing that, Rich! Trump is a jerk of the first order and shouldn’t be allowed air time. I am appauled that anyone would consider him a qualified presidential candidate.

  3. I’m in total agreement Rich. Nothing more to say.

  4. Reblogged this on zuzusays and commented:
    I totally agree with Rich.

  5. Thanks for bringing this forward Rich. Trump’s behavior is unacceptable.

  6. Well Rich I couldn’t agree with you more. Trump is an idiot on so many levels. I would like to see how he would act or react if he or a family member had any kind of a disability. Although I guess he does, Trumps chronic disability is something I recently came across….cognitive dissonance.

  7. Hi Rich, From over the Pond, Trump just looks like a clown & it beats us how he got a public platform to speak such nonsense! good on you for naming and shaming him!
    Kind regards from England..

  8. Hi Rich and Marge I totally agree. It is unbelievable to me that there are actually people who support this jack ass. And it’s so scary!! People here in the UK find it hilarious that he is running for president. Well, if it weren’t so scary it would be entertaining. I keep thinking every time he sticks his foot in his mouth like this that more people will be outraged and demand an apology or something but he keeps getting away with it by blaming the “biased” media.

  9. Well said! It’s amazing that so many people don’t see him for the vicious narcissist that he is.
